For our March meeting of the Middle Peninsula Chapter of the ASV, we will be featuring a presentation by Dr. David Brown on the Negro Motorist Green Book, an annual guide published between 1936 and 1966 to assist African Americans traveling across the U.S. It advertised hotels, restaurants and other businesses throughout the country that welcomed (or served) African American travelers during the period of Jim Crow and segregation. Dr. Brown’s lecture will focus on recent research into Green Book properties that survive in rural eastern Virginia.
