SUMMARY:Fairfield Foundation Family Circle
DESCRIPTION:The Fairfield Foundation Family Circle\, an affiliate chapter of Coming to the Table\, meets on the second Tuesday of each month\, from September–December and February–May\, from 5:30–7:00 pm\, in person at The Woodville Rosenwald School\, 4310 George Washington Memorial Highway\, and via Zoom. Each January we host our MLK Jr. Day community program\, and in June we gather for a two-day Homecoming hosted by Historic Antioch Baptist Church to celebrate kinship and connection. \n\n\n\nThe mission of the Fairfield Foundation Family Circle is to move beyond the legacy of enslavement on Virginia’s Middle Peninsula by gathering around the table\, as the descendants of the formerly enslaved and slave owners\, to share stories of ancestral roots on plantations and farms like Fairfield\, Rosewell\, and Timberneck and to shine light on the multifaceted people and communities that endure in these places.

SUMMARY:Walter Reed Birthday Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Walter Reed\, a physician and U.S. Army major whose research proved that mosquitoes\, not “bad air\,” spread yellow fever\, forever changing the course of public health. This milestone discovery paved the way for the construction of the Panama Canal and saved countless lives worldwide. \n\n\n\nThis special event takes place at Dr. Reed’s birthplace\, a 1820 house in Belori\, where more than 100 years of preservation work have kept his story and his birthplace alive for future generations. We’ll dig into what it takes to preserve a historic site for over a century\, and explore how archaeology\, biology\, and public health intersect at this one-of-a-kind location. \n\n\n\nThis event is also part of our celebration of Gloucester’s 375th anniversary\, honoring the people and places that have shaped the county’s long history\, and Dr. Reed’s contributions are a perfect example of Gloucester’s impact reaching far beyond its borders. \n\n\n\nWe’re excited to be working with partner organizations to bring this event to life! Stay tuned as we confirm and announce more details soon!  \n\n\n\nThis event is FREE for everyone to attend!
